It was then a member of the Japan Karate Association (J.K.A.) of which - then ...香港國際松濤館空手道會ShotokanKarateInternationalofHongKongLanguagesEnglish中文HomeShotokanKarateInternationalofHongKongShotokanKarateInternationalofHongKong(S.K.I.H.K)isinits43thyear,asofJanuary2021;however,astheShotokanKaratedojointhiscity,ithasbeeninexistencefor50years,havingfirstbeenestablishedin1971.ItwasthenamemberoftheJapanKarateAssociation(J.K.A.)ofwhich-thenSenseiKanazawa--wasJ.K.A.InternationalDirector.TheHongKongconnectionwasestablishedbyagroupofBritishcolonialstalwarts.TheyhadpreviouslytrainedinanothereminentkaratestyleandschoolalsobasedinTokyo.Afterrelinquishingtheirmembershipthere,theyoptedfortheShotokanschoolandjoinedtheJ.K.A.family,settingupthedojoatthethenall-EuropeanHongKongFootballClub(HKFC)inHappyValleyracecoursearea.ThelocalJ.K.A.pioneerswerejoinedbyanumberoftheirHongKongChineseseniorkaratekacolleaguesmostofwhomremainassociatedwithourdojotothisday.TheestablishmentoftheJ.K.A.H.K.dojowasaninstantsuccess.ShotokanKarateattractedarelativelysizeablefollowing,sothatbytheendofitsfirstyear,membershipnumberedclosetoeighty,sotraininginthoseheadyyearsofgenerallymartialartspopularity,numberedsomefortystudentsateachofthetwodailysessionsfivetimesaweek.Bythen,thedojocommitteehadsecured,largelythroughtheofficeofSanseiHirokazuKanazawa,theserviceofSenseiK.NamikatafromOsakacityofJapan,tobeourfirstChiefInstructor.In1973,atraumaticchangecameovertheJ.K.A.H.K.dojo.Theannualmeetingofthedojocommitteethatsummerresultedinacompleteoverhaulofthegeneralcommitteeandtheadventofthedojo’sfirstall-ChineseexecutiveadministrationwithDr.PhilipKwoksetupasPresident,theofficehestillholdstoday.Anotherequallydramaticchangecameinaboutattheendofthe1970swhenSenseiKanazawabrokeawayfromJ.K.A.toestablishShotokanKarateInternationalFederationin1978.TherefollowedthebigdecisiontobemadebyJ.K.A.dojosallovertheworld.HereinHongKong,ourowndecisionwasquickandb
